Astoria, OR: Home of the Goonies

On the Oregon coast lives a city made famous by a 1985 Steven Spielberg directed movie about a group of children who set out to find pirate’s treasure. All while being chased by criminals throughout the town of Astoria. Making a trip to the town today, many of the memorable shooting locations remain like the bowling alley where Chunk squishes his milkshake, or even Mikey & Brand’s home, occupied by a lovely family that allows fans to come take photos of the exterior. Even the jail that the criminals were locked up in has now converted to a ‘Goonies Museum’ featuring actual memorabilia and props from the movie. The town has a certain charm to it that makes traveling around easy as well as enjoying food around the slow paced community. Of course, those who’ve seen the film knows that the climax ends somewhere completely different, but still on the Oregon coast, at none other than Cannon Beach.
