Crater Lake National Park in Oregon was established on May 22, 1902. The lake was formed when Mount Mazama, a 12,000-foot-tall volcano erupted and collapsed roughly 7,700 years ago (doi.gov). The now famous tourist attraction, has a depth of 1,943 feet, making it the deepest lake in America. A 4-hour drive from my home in Hillsboro, OR, and a 7-hour drive from San Francisco; but a worthwhile visit. I’ve never seen a lake this blue in my entire life. Hiking trails, a nice lounge area, and plenty of photography spots. Crater Lake was a fun one to cross off the bucket list.
