B&W

One style of photography I was never a fan of (even up til 2021), was portrait photography. Especially when it had a camera flash involved. It wasn’t until I saw my friend, Will Nguyen’s self-portrait flash photography, did I notice how beautiful and complex the shadows and light formed to make a moody image. Our mutual friend, Chris Yeezy, then convinced me to purchase an external off-camera flash to practice. I had already owned a flash from 2012, but RARELY touched it at all, and when I did, it was always on the camera and never separate.
So in 2021, Chris and I embarked in learning how to use the flash and soon, I fell in love. This project, “B&W” project, is my love letter to my friends and family, wanting to capture their range of emotions and expressions. One day, I hope to print out one photo of each friend onto canvas and create a gallery wall.
